Know your shit

This page is to help people make decisions on buying a hybrid battery for their vehicle. All the examples and data on this page come from interacting with customers for years and getting feedback from them and getting data from our own batteries that have been installed on their vehicles as well.

Step one: Do I need a hybrid battery?

Just because it states check hybrid system doesn't mean its a hybrid battery problem. The key word is [system] and a system has many components.

[Inverter, DC/DC converter, High Voltage AC Compressor, Motor Generators, Coolant Pumps, High Voltage Battery, Cooling Fans, High Voltage Coolant Heaters, On Board Chargers]

Any of these components can trigger this message on Toyota and Lexus

Any of these can trigger the Yellow Wrench & stop safely now message on Ford

Any of these can trigger Service Engine Soon and the Red Car with the punctuation mark in the center for Nissan

Any of these can trigger the Check Engine Light and IMA light even if its on and off at times for Honda

Any of these can trigger the Check Hybrid System and Check Engine Light on Chevy, GMC, Cadillac

We don't work with Kia and Hyundai we gave up on them

Here are the codes

Toyota/Lexus

P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack (This code is the most common and appears on the 2010 models and up often)

P0A7F Hybrid Battery Pack Deterioration (If this code appears the vehicle was driven for more than 6 months and you probably kept playing with the orange switch to reset P0A80 and majority of the modules decreased in capacity. Keynote (A bad rebuilt battery will throw this code on the fly)

For the 2009 models and older any battery block codes 1 through 14 for Prius and 1 though 17 for Camry

P0AA6 Hybrid Battery Voltage Isolation Fault (this code means the high voltage system is shorting with the 12V low voltage system) DONT REPLACE JUST BECAUSE IT STATES HYBRID BATTERY ON THE DAMN CODE READER the keyword is Voltage and the voltage flows through many components, you need an Insulation Tester that outputs 500V to test.

For Prius models most of the time it's a leaking cell inside the battery pack for Lexus models such as Rx400h and RX450h the problem is usually the transmission or someone dropped a bolt inside the inverter when the cover was off. If the battery was already rebuilt that should be attacked first since many repair shops have been using screws to hold the cells together instead of using Rivets.
